Julien McRoberts did a fantastic job capturing the traditional dress and customs of the native peoples of Mexico and the Southwestern USA in this latest submission. Such care and skill – passed down through generations – goes into all of these costumes and traditions. If you are in need of some cultural imagery from either of these regions this would be a great place to start.

Throughout the conference, Danita and Dave attended meetings with other trade professionals covering the state of the photo industry and it’s future as well as spending valuable time networking with potential worldwide business partners.  Shown here, Danita poses with Michael Masterson – National  President of ASPP -  above the brand new Aviva Stadium.

Last Sunday, March 21st, we discovered that another image of ours was selected to appear on the Bing homepage. This particular image is of Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore in Munising, Michigan and was taken by Claudia Adams.

Yesterday we had the pleasure of going down to Art Wolfe’s studio in SoDo to meet with one of the heads of CreativeTechs.com about our upcoming footage seminars. Honestly I was not entirely sure what we would find and was curious to see what kind of space and operation they had. Danita, Dave and I were very pleasantly surprised to find a well equipped studio with full HD camera set up, a staff of four people each doing their part to broadcast to the world, a very skilled and informative photographer leading the discussion and eight very comfortable chairs for the live studio audience.

We sat in on a webinar streaming live on the internet regarding the use of ambient light and strobes in photography. Not only was the class very informative, we were told that these courses were in fact FREE to those watching it unfold live online, and FREE to those who come sit in the studio and participate in the discussion. The class was not unlike your standard how-to segment on public broadcasting or an instructional DVD, but rather than it being a canned production the “students” were participating in the discussion via two members of the staff moderating chat rooms set up for the class.

This is a tremendous teaching tool and an incredible bargain. They offer 5 and 10 week courses on various subjects pertaining to all forms of media. They make it financially feasible by selling the downloads of each class, and full courses on their website, but like I said before, to watch live online or in the studio in Seattle is 100% FREE.

As we begin this hopeful year of recovery, we wish you and all your colleagues great success for your 2010 projects. We’ve seen many changes throughout our industry with photographers and clients alike. It’s been a trying year and if you are among those that are still in business or working with freelance projects, we congratulate you! We were sorry to see many of our clients close their doors or downsize in 2009. Let’s hope 2010 will be much different and judging by all the recent activity on our site, we are quite hopeful!

That said, we are very much still in business, with thousands of new images going up onto our site each week. We are thrilled and honored to have so many talented and respected photographers seeking us out for representation as well.

Today we are pleased to announce a collaboration with the National Geographic Image Collection. We are now representing a portion of their collection and will be adding more with time. The NGIC’s images are well aligned with what we ourselves have been representing. You’ll find of lots of interesting moments captured in time–little slices of traditional lifestyle found throughout the world, caught by seasoned NGprofessional photographers traversing the globe on assignment for National Geographic. In December I was honored at the ASPP New York Holiday Party by being awarded ASPP’s “Jane Kinne Picture Professional of the Award”. This means very much to me, coming from so many well respected peers in the industry. There are not many awards in this business for those of us who work with the images after they’ve been taken, so this acknowledgment is significant and rare. Having served on the ASPP board with Jane, as well as the NANPA Foundation Board (North American Nature Photography Association), I got to know Jane in a warm, yet professional way. She was always very happy to share information and advice, having worked in the industry for 50+ years. I learned a lot from Jane, most importantly that at the end of the day, it’s all about finding a fair solution for everyone involved when negotiating anything. I keep this in mind every day when working with clients. It needs to be a win-win all around for everyone to be happy.
